3 things I wish I knew when I was diagnosed with PCOS

Enhancing my nutrition and prioritising movement and stress management enabled me to heal my body of PCOS, helped me naturally conceive our beautiful boy Sebby and was the reason I started my career in nutrition 🤍

There is so much information about PCOS and it can feel overwhelming, it really is never a one-size-fits all when it comes to endocrine disorders like PCOS but I’m sharing a few things I wish I’d known when I was first diagnosed with PCOS in the hope it gives you some reassurance and positive place to start.

What is PCOS?

PCOS is a one of the most common hormonal conditions in women of reproductive age, effecting one in 10 women.

Its a complex condition and not everyone experiences PCOS in the same way but the three main symptoms are: high androgen levels (which can stimulate hair growth on your face and body), irregular or absent periods and polycystic ovaries seen on an ultrasound scan. Other common symptoms include weight-gain due to insulin resistence, acne and mood changes.

Some women experience a few of these symptoms and some women don’t experience any of these symptoms but still present with polycyclic ovaries and in this case would be diagnosed with having polycystic ovaries (without the syndrome part).

Making positive changes to your nutrition and lifestyle is hands down one of the very best proactive things you can do for your body (and mind) when it comes to supporting your PCOS diagnosis. Food and lifestyle is so powerful and I absolutely love supporting my clients and encouraging them to take control of their PCOS and help their bodies heal it’s so empowering.
