Why your skincare routine should start with the gut…

The most effective beauty routine really is one that treats the skin on the inside AND the outside and should always start with the gut. Here’s how to strengthen your gut-skin connection…

The best skin and beauty routine is one that treats the internal as well as the external- trust me its how you will get the results you want and will serve your health for a lifetime of benefits.

There’s little point spending lots of money on beauty products that promise the world without also spending time nourishing your body from within, because the most effective beauty routine really is one that treats the skin on the inside AND the outside and should always, always start with the gut.

I spoke to the London Evening Standard about my favourite subject, ‘The Gut-Skin’ Connection and shared my nutritional insight on just how vital good gut health is absolutely essential to good skin. The health and happiness of your gut plays a huge role in our body’s ability to function optimally and as many people have experienced an unhappy gut can result in uncomfortable digestive issues- but good gut health plays a role in our heart health, maintaining a strong immune system and has a direct link to the health and strength of our skin, hair and nails too as an imbalanced gut can manifest as skin inflammation, thinning hair and brittle nails.

70% of our immune cells are located in the gut, so therefore its important we keep it consistently fed and nourished with nourishing whole foods and use supplements to our advantage in order to boost our inner beauty as well as improving our gut health.

Inside-out beauty key points:

〰️Your external skin requires ingredients from your products to👉🏻stimulate collagen production, strengthen, hydrate & treat skin inflammation and/or signs of ageing if this is your goal.

〰️Marrying up a powerful external skincare routine using the right products designed for your skin condition and type, whilst consistently feeding yourself a balanced whole food diet rich in antioxidants, fatty acids, quality protein sources and key vitamins and minerals is CRUCIAL for good skin health and will give you results beyond glowing skin- your whole internal system and hormonal health will reap the benefits.

〰️Whilst food should always come first supplementation can be the missing piece of the puzzle to optimise skin and can effectively bridge the gap where nutrients might be low and hard to achieve from diet alone.

My go-to beauty supplement is Manifesto’s nutritionist formulated, vegan beauty gummies as they contain essential vitamins to support hair, skin and nails and also contain a dose of inulin which is a prebiotic fibre that feeds the gut microbiome for a healthier gut, which is essential for good skin health because you can’t have one without the other. In my opinion these specialised beauty gummies have changed the beauty supplement game they not only contain a carefully curated ingredient list packed full of antioxidants and vitamins targeted to support your outside beauty and help strengthen your immunity, but the added prebiotic fibre means you’re serving your gut health too.
